Sølve Sigerland

Sølve Sigerland studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest, as well as seeking out the expertise of other violinists such as Ana Chumachenco in Switzerland and Lorand Fenvyes in Canada. Sigerland has devoted most of his career to chamber music, although he has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras of the Nordic countries under conductors including Andrew Litton, Daniel Harding and Leif Segerstam. In recent years his performances of Mozart's violin concertos nos. 3 and 5 under the leadership of Walter Weller have displayed his soloist qualities to the full.

In 1993 he represented Norway at the Nordic soloist biennial in Stockholm and established his position as a violinist of international format. Later he won two prizes in the international Tibor Varga competition in Sion, Switzerland.

As a member of Grieg Trio, Sølve Sigerland has enjoyed success all over the world. His recording of Grieg's string quartet with, among others, cellist Truls Mørk, was awarded French record industry's highest accolade, the Diapason d'Or.

His recording of Bjarne Brustad's work for solo violin revealed a lesser-known Norwegian composer who wrote challengingly for the instrument, yet highly idiomatically; with his recording Sølve Sigerland introduced a new work to the repertoire. Sigerland's musical mastery is otherwise thoroughly documented in countless recordings with Grieg Trio.

From 2004-2009 he was co-artistic director of the Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival together with his colleagues in Grieg Trio.
